Wiley CPA review course materials are probably the most widely used CPA review system, and is certainly one of the oldest (over 30 years). Wiley materials used to be way too comprehensive in trying to cover all bases in great detail, but students have noticed some improvement in recent revisions of Wiley’s review books, which have become more concise and more efficient to study from. In spite of the improvements, though, many students still find Wiley’s books to contain too much information.

However, Wiley’s still contain solid information if you know what parts to concentrate on. This is where Yaeger’s review comes in. Yaeger’s CPA review course actually includes Wiley’s review books and software, but instead of making you go through the entire Wiley books, Yaeger will assign certain Wiley questions for you to focus on. Yaeger’s course chooses questions based on the likelihood of their appearing on the real exam, so that you can maximize your chances of passing while minimizing your study time. Some students complain about the “newsprint-like” font in Wiley books, and that they contain too many typos, both in explanation text and in calculations. If you don’t like to read from textbooks (especially if it’s in a small font), you may want to check out Yaeger’s lecture DVDs instead.

On the plus side, Wiley’s materials are a lot cheaper than most of the other CPA review courses, and they are updated with each bi-annual update so you can be sure you’re getting the most up-to-date information. If you want to go with Wiley, don’t just get the review books. Also get the software CDs which contain tons of MCQs and also simulation questions. If you don’t mind doing a lot of reading and spending time doing a lot of questions, Wiley’s review books combined with Wiley’s software CDs can prepare you very well for the CPA exam – and for a lot less money than other CPA review courses.
